The Global Institute for Leadership and Civic Development
The Global Institute for Leadership and Civic Development have been running summer academic leadership programs in Prague, Czech Republic since 2000. The programs are open to university students from around the world and are designed to create future leaders and responsible global citizens. The participants undergo a rigorous selection process. Only the top 10% of the applicants are accepted. The programs include academic courses, cultural activities, and community service. They are creating a new program called the "Global Citizens Program" which will be held in Brussels from June 5 - July 16, 2006. As part of the program, they are looking for internship opportunities for the students. The focus of the internships is broad and flexible to the needs of your organization. They can range from 5 weeks to 2 months (or longer if desired). The goals of your organization complement the work that we do. They would like to know if you would be willing to host any of our unpaid internships or can use an volunteers for programs you are running/organizing. For further information on our organization, please see www.globalleaders.info.

All the volunteers are working mostly at the office in Agios Germanos, which is also a lending library, a centre for creative activities for children, a caf and a shop for local and tourist products, which is run by the CTP staff as well as by the volunteers. Furthermore, volunteers write texts and update the website, prepare CTPs newsletters and participate in an audition in a local radio. They are involved in administrative tasks, research, budgeting, financing and supporting the efficient running of the library. Many of the activities include travelling to the neighbouring countries Albania and fYR of Macedionia.
The second working place is an Internet caf called Steki in a neighboring village. Its open in the evenings (from 6 to 11 p.m.) and besides Internet and computer games it offers drinks and music. Almost every Saturday we organize an event in the Steki. This can be a concert, an exhibition, a computer competition, a party, etc. For the occasions like Carnival or Easter we organize bigger events for the children from all the villages. The Steki also functions as a meeting place for young people from the three neighboring countries (Albania, fYR of Macedonia and Greece). Volunteers are expected to be creative and bring new ideas to the place. That also counts for all the activities. The organization is open for any proposals coming from the volunteers, they are supporting them in taking initiatives and implementing additional projects such as exchange meetings (Action 1 of the Youth program), workshops, events, etc. with a support.
Additional tasks such as workshops for children either at the library or the Steki or even right in their villages, support children aged 4-12. In order to help the volunteers with these tasks a regular training at a local kindergarten is offered.
