Youth participation and democratic citizenship, 26 to 30th of April 2006, Romania A training course for youth organizations, local
youth authorities and
political parties that aims to connect
individuals, organizations and
communities to the resources they need to
successfully involve youth in
decision-making.


    Specific objectives of this project are:

Defining youth participation in decision making
and defining elements in
community engagement
Sharing experiences in youth community engagement
within participants’ work
Understanding the voluntary and community sectors
and their role(s)
within youth community engagement
Learning creative techniques for youth community
engagement
Developing creative ways to implement Council of
Europe Youth
Participation Charter


    Methodology and program elements:

- Accelerated Learning will be the main
methodology that we will use in
this training course. It is based on the latest
research on brain and
learning. It is open and flexible. It gets
learners totally involved. It
appeals to all learning styles. It energizes and
re-humanizes the
learning process. It seeks to make learning
enjoyable. And it is
solidity committed to results, results, and
results.

- Open Space Technology will be used in the
second part of the training
course were we will create the space and time for
participants to share
experience and to develop action plans

The training course will have two parts:

    * The first part ( 1 and a half day) is a
training course will give
      participants the opportunity to learn,
experience, and reflect
      upon elements related with youth
involvement in public life.
    * The second part (2 days and a half) is
design as an open floor for
      the participants to share experience, to
design and develop
      methods/activities related with youth
participation.

All the information that we will use during this
training course is
based on training manuals from UNDP, Council of
Europe and UNICEF.


What you will learn:

  Module 1: The concept of youth participation*:
what is youth
      participation , historical background,
interpreting participation,
      pro and cons of participation, level of
youth participation
  Module 2: Strategies for promoting
participation*: principles of
      participation sequence of action,
participation process
  Module 3: Participatory methods  Principles and
techniques:
      type of techniques for promoting youth
participation, legal and
      informal methods for youth involvement in
decision making at a
      local level, Council of Europe Charter as a
tool in youth
      participation, Using participatory methods:
advantages, challenges
      and ways forward. A short list of the
methods that will be
      presented: World Café, Open Space
Technology, Citizens Jury,
      Consensus Conference, Delphi, Technology of
Participation, etc


Who Can Attend at the Training Courses

Voluntary or employed staff of non-governmental
youth organizations,
youth authorities and other youth networks who
are conducting
educational youth activities for young people

Be committed to attend for the full duration of
the course.

Be aged between 18 and 30 years old.

Competently able to work in English language

Resident of one of the Council of Europe
Countries

  Working language

English will be the working language of the
training course. Any kind of
interpretation will not be provided.

Candidates must have sufficient understanding of
the working languages
in order to fully participate in the training
course without assistance
from another person.


  Financial conditions

    * board and lodging are provided and paid by
the organizers
    * we will reimburse up to 200 Euro from the
travel costs but not
      more than 70%
    * there is no participation fee


Procedure of application and selection

All candidates must apply using the application
form that is on-line.
The application should be submitted the latest on
*31 of March 2006*.
