Happy Albanians This year, for the first time ever, an Albanian girls team is participating in Norway Cup. The girls have never before been abroad, and they are very excited to be here. The match The Albanian girls team The Door-Albania was at intermission time behind 1-0, but that wasn't enough to make them sad. The cheerful atmosphere among the football girls was not even reduced when the match ended with a loss.
- I'm having fun!, proclaimed a happy and smiling Ilirjana Idrizaj from the sideline during the second half. The 13 year old footballplayer is outside her homecountry Albania for the very first time. - Of course I hope we will win, but being here at Norway Cup is anyway a very good experience. Her thoughts about Norway Cup are also shared by the rest of her team. - It's so much fun to be here, and we all love it! Myself included, said coach Kastriot Faci, while he was giving his team encouraging advices and tips from the sidelinje, and at the same time smiling from ear to ear. Under yesterday's match, Loddefjord dominated, but the Albanian girls were anyway not afraid of tackling the girls from Bergen, and they had a lot of go-ahead spirit. In the second half Loddefjord scored again, and then afterwards Ornela Smajli ran from mid field, dribled her way through and placed the ball in the opponents goal. The match ended with a 2-1 loss to Loddefjord, but the cheerful Albanians did not loose either their good mood, their confidence or their spirit for that reason. And despite the loss, they still considered themselves as winners.
- You should know something, said 15 year old Iris Beci from Albania's boys team after the match, after having sat on the sideline cheering for his fellow female country members. - We Albanians are different. We always win. Albania and girl football Back home in Albania the girls only play against boys teams. There is no football association that handles girl football in the country similar to the one we have in Norway. Coming to Ekebergsletta and Norway Cup and seeing so many girls teams playing hence felt big for both leaders and players. - There are girls teams everywhere here!, said coach Kastriot Faci. Football is not the most widespread girl sport in Albania, something that coach Faci can confirm. - The Albanian girls team at this year's Norway Cup is actually the first Albanian girls team ever to participate in an international competition!
Not just football A trip to Norway is so much more than just football playing. The girls have taken a walk around the city centre, through the shopping street Karl Johan, seen the palace and much more. The next few days they're planning to see more of the city. They're not going home before Monday, and before that, they're hoping to experience a lot more. So far, the girls are very happy with their stay in Norway. - I'm so happy to be here!, exclaimed Ilirjana. - I've made a lot of friends, especially boys. The Norwegian guys are cute. And they're all blond. I like that! They're also very friendly, and they speak with me a lot of times.
But the girls are not the only ones who are happy with their visit to Norway. Coach Kastriot Faci could also tell us that it has been a fantastic week so far, and that he would very much like to come back here with the team some other time.
