Artists invited to submit work for the 27th Annual Juried South Carolina Artists Competition submissions March 25 - April 5 The [(ova rec je uklonjena kao neprikladna ili psovka-molim Vas da je vise ne koristite)] County Museum of Art & History’s Twenty-Seventh Annual Juried South Carolina Artists Competition will take place beginning March 25 2006. This competition is open to all living South Carolina artists, 18 years of age or older, working in any medium. This year’s competition will be the premier exhibition in the newly remodeled and expanded [(ova rec je uklonjena kao neprikladna ili psovka-molim Vas da je vise ne koristite)] County Museum. After being closed to the public since September of 2004, the now tripled in size facility will be a major upstate destination for cultural, natural and heritage resources. Xandra Eden, curator of exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, NC will serve as juror for this year’s competition. Her recent exhibitions at the University of North Carolina facility include John Duff (2005), Eve Sussman: 89 Seconds at Alcazar (2006), and Uneasy Nature: New Perceptions of Nature in Contemporary Art (2006). Eden was formerly assistant curator at The Power Plant in Toronto where she curated exhibitions such as Emma Kay: The Story of Art (2005), Republic of Love (2004) and In Through the Out Door: David Armstrong Six/Germaine Koh/Nestor Kruger. Her recent independently curated exhibitions include Jay Isaac (2005) at CUE Art Foundation, New York and The Cave and the Island (2004) at White Columns, New York and Galerie Kunstbuero in Vienna, Austria. She has published reviews and written essays for a variety of art magazines and exhibition catalogues. Eden earned her Master of Arts degree in curatorial studies from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, one of the foremost programs of its kind. She also holds a BFA in Studio Art from the State University of New York at Purchase. Cash and purchase awards exceeding $ 3,500.00 will be presented in this year’s competition. Entries may be shipped or delivered to the museum beginning Saturday March 25 and continuing through Wednesday April 5 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The results of the competition, as the premier exhibition in the expanded [(ova rec je uklonjena kao neprikladna ili psovka-molim Vas da je vise ne koristite)] County Museum, will open with a gala reception and awards ceremony following the museum’s April 22 ribbon cutting. The exhibition will continue through June 2. Individuals or businesses interested in general or purchase award sponsorship should contact the museum before April 1.
