Dear friends,
I am writing to you on behalf of Queer Bulgaria
Foundation. In the
second half of November 2006 we plan to organize
a multilateral
youth exchange (Action 1 of the Youth Program) in
Bulgaria: Am I
Legal? Anti-discrimination policies in Europe.
Currently we are
looking for European partners from BUlgaria,
Romania, Serbia and
Montenegro, Lithuania, Estonia and Sweden. The
countries mentioned
are a subject of change in case we find motivated
partners and we
keep the balance between EU and non-EU members.
Summary of the project:
Queer Bulgaria Foundation decided to host 25
young people from all
over Europe and let them discuss about the
legislative background of
discrimination in their countries. We have
invited EU member
countries, pre-accession countries and non-member
countries in order
to find out if the laws connected with
discrimination are "made up"
in the EU or not. We want to share experience and
learn together the
answers of questions like:
- What is discrimination?
- Have I ever discriminated? Is it possible to
discriminate without
being aware of it?
- Which are the institutions and the tools in my
country and in
Europe fighting discrimination?
- What can I do if I feel discriminated?
- Are the legal practices working? Why?
Working methods and tools:
Each participating country will present in front
of the other
participants the current legislative situation of
discrimination in
their country. The latter will be followed by
panel discussions,
interactive games, meetings with Bulgarian
institutions and NGOs.
Bringing all the information and conclusions they
made the
participants will write a common report in the
end of the seminar.
It will be used for good practices in the same
field in the future.
Profile of the participants:
- 3 participants + 1 leader per country
- 18 - 25 years of age
- willing and being able to participate actively
for the whole
duration of the project
- having experience/being interested in legal
policies against
discrimination
- ready to make a research about the situation in
their country and
present it to an audience
Financial terms:
- 70 % of the travel cost by the cheapest means
of transport is
covered
- accommodation, food and trips inside the
country are provided
For the time being it is not clear if we will
have a participation
fee. However, it is our intention to make this
exchange accessible
to everyone willing to participate.
Your responsibilities as a partner organization:
- to choose a leader who will be country
responsible and will take
part in a preparatory meeting in September in
Sofia
- to fill, sign, stamp and send BY MAIL the PART
III form in April
2006
- to organize a selection procedure in order to
find motivated
youngsters to take part in the exchange. (N.B. We
strongly recommend
you to invite also participants from other youth
NGOs dealing with
discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity,
religion, gender,
etc. in order to have a diverse group.)
In case you have further questions please contact
us. We will be
waiting your suggestions and comment on the draft
of the project too.
Hope to receive a letter of interest from your
organization soon!
Deadline for letter of interest - 1st of May,
2006
Deadline for PART III - 15th of may, 2006
Martin Cvetkov,
Executive Director
